CARDS (EUCHRE) SECTION
The Cards Section have had a busy August, we had the Annual 3 handed Tournament with winners names to go on the Honours Board, this was won jointly by Diane Heath & Gina Howden on 21points.
We had 10 members go to the Clubs NZ National Euchre Championships at Blenheim. We were extremely pleased to come back with Trophies – Val Giddens received aggregate runner up (Score taken over 2 days) and Jennifer Cole received the Championship Trophy – Runner up jointly with Dave McKay (Papanui Club) and also a Medallion for randomly being selected, with scores added for a North / South Island challenge.
Our 18 weeks of games are now over for interclub. We had been going very well prior to August and hoped to keep our lead. However, it wasn’t to be, you could say. The wheels fall off with our last game & we ended up 1st equal with Woolston, so on Saturday we played off against them and had an awesome win, winning 10-3 (We have never beaten them by that margin before). So our team coming home on the bus on Saturday were very jubilant.
We now get to host the presentations at Hornby in a couple of week’s.
So the Shield Trophy gets to go back in our Trophy Cabinet, for another year.
Our Winter Tournament games are just about ready to go into semi’s, so we will have these results for you next month.
So as usual, any new members interested in playing euchre, come and join us by 7-30pm any Thursday night.
